1968 Shelby Mustang GT500 for sale! Motorcar Classics is pleased to offer this stunning and nearly all original Shelby GT500 428 Cobra Jet with only 39,000 original miles. Presented in Acapulco Blue and black interior almost all of the paint on this Shelby is 100% original and has been verified professionally via paint meter readings. This Shelby is one of the most original and highly documented and preserved examples we have ever seen. The body panels, glass and fiberglass are all original. The entire drivetrain on this car is original as well, with all tags and vin stamps present! The interior on this Shelby has been preserved nicely and is 100% original including the carpets. The build sheet is still attached and wrapped on the main wire harness. The gas tank is also original to the car, which is very rare. The trunk retains the original tar paper over gas tank along with the original burlap mat and spare/jack. Even more impressive, you will find many of the factory paint marks in and around the car. This Shelby comes with the original keys and tons of original documents, some dating back to 1968. The car runs and drives and is mechanically excellent as well.

This Shelby was originally sold back in 1968 out of Indiana (Jack Thrasher Ford) to a Curtis Sinclair, as noted on the owner's manual, owners cards, and documents.  For a short time, out of the same town, a Dave Felstein purchased the car.  After his ownership, Dan Fitzgerald (owner of Fitz Jeep/Dodge) purchased it.  The next owner was Dale Weeks from Maine who has owned it from 1988 to 2023. Its current owner is a local collector who resides in NJ and has consigned the vehicle to us. This example is considered an early car with the very rare Autolite carb with tag remaining.

Non original parts and common consumable replacement parts on this car include: Water pump (have original and rebuilt ready for install), Solenoid (have original), Distributor (have original and rebuilt ready for install), Brake booster and master cylinder (have original ones), Thermactor/Smog/Emissions; as most did, removed from car but have almost all of the original parts, pumps, hoses, clamps, etc. Radiator hoses (have replacement concours correct ones), Heater core/hoses (have replacement and concours correct hoses), PCV valve (replaced with a correct autolite one), have original Fuel pump, Alternator (rebuilt, restamped and ready for install), Shocks (have old maybe original Koni rear shocks). Do not miss this opportunity to own this time capsule Shelby GT500!
