1983 PININFARINA SPIDER AZZURA for sale. In 1966 Fiat introduced the 124 Spider. The Spider was designed by the famed Tom Tjaarda, who was part of Pininfarinas creative team in the early 1960s. Pininfarina also designed most of the iconic Ferraris of the era, and many similarities can be seen between the Fiat 124 and Ferrari 275 and 330 GTS models. There is further Ferrari DNA in the Lampredi-designed dual-cam 4-cylinder engine.
Fiat continued producing the popular 124 Spider until 1983, when Sergio Pininfarina added over 100 design and engineering improvements and began manufacturing the car as the Pininfarina Azzura in America, and Spider Europa on the continent. The Azzura was priced at $16,900 in the U.S., comparable to a Lincoln Town Car. They were built until 1986, by which time approximately 3,000 were sold. The cars are badged as a Pininfarina, and you can tell it's a Pinin from the improved dash that sweeps up from the center. Air conditioning was standard (USA cars) and there is improved ventilation with the new dash layout. Also electric windows are standard with controls and clock in the center of dash. Power is from a Bosch-injected 1995CC 102 HP engine with a 5-speed gearbox. With a weight of 2,359 lbs, 0-60 was reported to be about 10.9 seconds.
Motorcar Classics is proud to present this very rare 1983 Azzura featured in Red with Black interior and Black leather seating surfaces. This car has been owned since new by a Fiat dealer in Texas and it has never been registered. The car is still on MSO which means that the buyer will be its first registered owner. This amazing car has been driven just 30,158 miles, all in Texas, on dealer tags, and remains in excellent running order. The car is completely original with 100% factory paint. No radio has ever been installed. The cosmetics are very good, showing some patina from age and use, but it may be the most original Azzura in existence.
